Our Team

TriMetis has recruited an elite staff with extensive experience providing contract services related to medical device and drug development. Our staff has expertise in the areas of veterinary medicine, surgery, care and welfare, GLP and FDA compliance, biologistics and biospecimens and Six Sigma and Lean Laboratory.

Scientific Team

Timothy Mandrell, DVM, DACLAM

Dr. Mandrell ensures that all research programs and policies are consistent with the Guide, PHS Policy and federal welfare regulations. He has extensive  expertise in the areas of regulatory compliance, biosafety, experimental design, pharmacology, analgesia and infectious diseases. Dr. Mandrell is a diplomate of ACLAM and author or co-author of over 60 published articles, abstracts and book chapters. In addition to his role with TriMetis, he is also the Chair and a Professor of Department of Comparative Medicine at University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Previously, he served as the Veterinary Medical Officer and Senior Staff Veterinarian for the USDA.

 David Hamilton, DVM, DACLAM

Dr. Hamilton has expertise in veterinary diseases, quarantine and health surveillance programs, experimental design, breeding and husbandry, molecular biology, biosafety, and viral vectors. He is a diplomate of ACLAM and also serves at UT Health Science Center as an Associate Professor in the Department of Comparative Medicine. Previously, he was an Animal Veterinarian Halifax Veterinary Hospital in Nova Scotia, Canada and a University Veterinarian at McGill University.

 John Scott Jackson, DVM

Dr. Jackson has expertise in the areas anesthesia, surgery, perioperative care, and radiology. In his role with TriMetis, he consults with and trains investigators and technicians in usage and surgery, protocol development and re-review. He also has a role as an instructor at UT Health Science Center in Department of Comparative Medicine.

Edward Chaum, MD, PhD

Dr. Chaum specializes in retinal disease and  in his role with TriMetis, he consults with investigators and sponsors in studies involving the eye. He also has a role as University of Tennessee Plough Foundation Professor of Retinal Diseases and his research supports a large portfolio of translational grants and transformative research in the areas of telemedicine, nanotechnology, biomedical sensors, gene therapy, and clinical outcomes research.  In addition to his roles in academia, he is the co-founder and Chief Medical Officer for several startup companies.

Ryan Yates, PharmD, PhD

Dr. Yates is a consulting scientist with TriMetis and provides his expertise on medical device 10993 studies and pharmaceutical product research. He is also an associate professor in The University of Tennessee’s Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences where his research is focused on Dr. Yates’ research is focused on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs used in the critically ill patient.

 

Management Team

Phil Cestaro, President & CEO

Mr. Cestaro has more than 15 years of executive-level experience growing start-ups from foundation to over $65 million in value. He has a proven track record in starting, building, and running companies and divisions, specializing in entrepreneurial leadership, strategic planning, operations, information technology and financial experience. Prior to joining TriMetis he was the President of SCRI Global Services at Sarah Cannon Research Institute and Director of Life Sciences Product Management and Strategy at Oracle Corporation.  Mr. Cestaro also currently serves as Vice President, Life Sciences with Memphis Bioworks Foundation.

 Jon Wetzel, COO

Mr. Wetzel has over 18 years of experience in the life sciences and 14 years of management experience in start-up biotech companies. Prior to co-founding FoundationBio which is now part of TriMetis, he served in academia and senior roles in industry: University of Michigan, UCLA, Genelogic, Rosetta Inpharmatics, Asterand and AdeptBio. He has Certifications from the University of Michigan for Lean and Six Sigma and is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Mr. Wetzel is on several publications and is the co-inventor on and patent holder of several products.

 Leif Honda, SVP Business Development

Mr. Honda has over 14 years of experience in the life sciences. Prior to joining joining TriMetis, he co-founded FoundationBio which is now part of  TriMetis, and served in senior roles in several start-up Life Science companies in Research Biospecimen Procurement, Diagnostics, and M&A transactions including companies Digilab, LLC, BioVisioN, GmbH, and Genomic Solutions, LLC. He is the inventor of several patents in peptide research tools and renal insufficiency diagnostics, and is a member of the Board of Visitors of the Kiski School.
